It's not that it's wifi enabled. It's not that it's smaller than some books I carry around. It's not even that it costs £200. The real benefit of the Asus EEE is that it boots in about 20 seconds so I can get online pretty much whenever I like. I've had it for two weeks and it's already caused me to make my home wifi network operate properly; give up watching the TV news over breakfast in favour of checking news I'm actually interested in online; never lose a thought I have while commuting; and, admittedly, give up hours of my life to mastering Desktop Tower Defence.
It's also encouraged me to invent a new geek game, that can be played while travelling through any major city (say, London) in a taxi - scanning to see who hasn't secured their wifi network. Last night's most amusing find - the Kuwaiti Embassy.
